and this of all things during the Christmas Bird Count at the end of December 2015. Accompanied by my daughters Manuela and Edith the three of us started at 5.45 am. Only that early is it possible to see Rufous-bellied Nighthawks patrolling along the main road. We were lucky and saw two individuals. Before our breakfast at 8.00 o´clock we already registered more than 60 species. Highlights were Broad-winged Hawk (a North American migrant), Barred Puffbird, Crimson-bellied Woodpecker, Tyrannine Woodcreeper, and Golden-winged Manakin. The two new species were detected while hiking through the forest: Streaked Xenops and Scarlet Tanager. Altogether we came up to 97 species. Not bad for just one day and such a small area. And so the Mindo Lindo bird list counts 220 species!
